Herbal muscle relaxant serves as remedies for stiff joints and muscle aches. These herbal muscle relaxants are used as baths or compresses to cure chronic rheumatism and other external pains since time immemorial. You should consult your doctor before using herbs to avoid complications. Effective herbal muscle relaxant include: valerian, hops, passionflower, chamomile and catnip. Some herbs that proved effective in treating muscle spasms are valerian, skullcap and cramp bark stops the tight muscles from going into spasm.

The following are used as effective herbal muscle relaxant:

Valerian is a tall pinkish herb with flowers. It contains antispasmodic properties effective in muscle aches and cramps. To treat muscle pains using valerian as herbal muscle relaxant, take 400-450 mg or ½ teaspoon liquid extract and increase it to 800-1,350 mg or 1-2 teaspoons liquid extract before bed.

Horseradish is one herbal muscle relaxant that is found in Hungary or Russia. The root is a stimulant, diuretic, antiseptic and laxative. External applications of horseradish have been used for muscles aches and pains for years. To make a horseradish poultice, gate a large horseradish root, spread on clean cloth and put on top of the affected area with the cloth pressed against the skin until a burning sensation is felt. The burning sensation signals that blood flow was stimulated and the relief is near. Use this at night before bedtime. It can also be used to bring relief from chest congestion.

Hyssop is another herbal muscle relaxant that is an evergreen herb that grows up to 2 feet high. This plant is a member of the mint family. This is used as an expectorant, stimulant and diaphoretic. Due to its volatile oils that are antiseptic, it is quite useful as herbal muscle relaxant.

Lavender has calming effect to the body and is another herbal muscle relaxant. When mixed with bath water, lavender oil relaxes and gets rid of tension.

Ginger bath encourages circulation and is used to treat arthritis and bursitis. To make ginger bath, heat two pounds of fresh, grated ginger in gallon of water until hot. Do not boil. Steep for 10 minutes; strain and pour the mixture into hot batch and soak for 20 minutes or more.

Another great bath herbal muscle relaxant recipe comprise of 1 ounce burdock root, 1 ounce mugwort, 1 ounce comfrey leaf and 1 ounce sage. Combine and infuse in 1 quart of boiled water. Steep for 10 minutes; strain, then add to bath water and soak for as long as want.
